Amelia Taylor (picture) - a baby who survived birth after 22 weeks (it's normally 36 weeks) was allowed home on the 20th February 2007. For some people this opened up the question as to the point an abortion should be allowed. In the UK abortion is allowed up until 24 weeks. After looking at the arguments (and discussing them with friends and family) write your thoughts on this. Should abortions be allowed up until 24 weeks? Say what you think and explain WHY you think it.

i think that abortion should stay at 24weeks. this is because that the life of the baby at 22 weeks was extremely risky and probably had a rare chance of survival
I think that if the baby has a heart and dtarts breathing, then it is alive, and so at that stage, i dont think you should be allowed to have an abortion.

Personally, i think that abortion should stay at 24 weeks, mainly because the woman/teen may not know they are pregnant yet, but also because a baby born before 24 weeks has a very low survival chance. A pregnant woman should be regarded as a human being, not just a container for the baby, therefore; it is up to the woman to decide when they want an abortion. In my opinion, the baby is only truly living when it can survive outside of the mothers woumb and although i understand the view that "abortion is murder" i think circumstances have to be taken into account before an abortion is undertaken and before a pregnant woman is judged on their actions.

I think that abortion should be cut down, maybe to 20 weeks, especially seeing as though this baby stayed alive after only 22 weeks.
weather its too late or not is up to the woman who is having the abortion after 24 could be for lots of reasons .e.g the woman has fallen ill or may not be able to cope, how ever so long as there is no risk to her then abortion should be able to happen when ever the woman wants .
because it is her body and she should be able to do as she wants, if people start telling her what she can and cant do she might as well be told what she can and cant buy or where she can and cant live and this would be wrong, the abortion is HER choice no one elses.
everyone has there views but they shouldnt be forced onto others just because they dont like it, abortion after 24 weeks is fine so long as there is no danger to the woman.

i think that there should be no abortion because if you had sex and didn't want a baby then you should of worn a condom and then there will be no need for it plus twentey four weeks it is classed as a person i think it is classed as a person on the moment of conception

24 weeks is far too late. in hungary this is 12 weeks and this is already too far. not only because of the chld, but also because of the emotional life of the mother. after the 12th week there has to be a medical reason to abort a child.
a pregnancy is not 36 but 40 weeks long.
you have to be very narrow minded to agree to an abortion at the week 24.

anonymus! if you think that a pregnancy can be unnoticed at the week 24 that meens that you have never seen a pregnant woman.
i am not against abortion, but week 24 is realy unhuman and if a woman can do that instead of being pregnant for an other 16 weeks, giving birth and give the baby in adoption than anyway she would better not have a child. a child starts to kick on the week 15-17. you feel it and like it or not it is a human being.

Abortion at 24 weeks or any time is cruel.
Would you harm a poor little kitten by crushing its skull? No, you would keep it wouldn’t you? But it is ok with you to crush an infants skull!! How do you think the baby dies? Yes the baby suffers and can feel pain.

So many wonderful people want to adopt your baby and love and cherish your baby for the rest of their life. Choose Life not DEATH.
i think that 24 weeks is far to late to abort a baby and its un humane. 12/13 weeks if your circumstances are very bad but that shoud be the limit. three weeks ago i gave birth to a gorgous baby girl and could never imagin being without her even though she wasn planned to hold her now in my arms is a feeling like no other. i would urge anyone considering an abortion to really think hard about it and if possible dont do it cause you will regret it!!

Most abortions take place around 13 weeks; it is quite rare for abortions to take place at 24 weeks but as we see, the issue is still...when does human life start?
I believe it just wrong .Im going through a similar sitution with one of my friends who is 22 weeks. i think if you were going to do it do it in the earlier stages not when that baby is breathing and functioning. I also believe it is selfish for the mother to considerate it how would they have felt if they parents aborted them? well they didnt so they desieve to live
I think it shouldnt be aborted after its brain has started developing and began feeling pain. I also support it though, because ide rather have an abortion than give a child up for adoption and leave the care of my own flesh entirely in a strangers hands. that stranger could be an emotionally abusive person who raises a future mass murderer. i feel bad for innocent children being aborted but i would feel even worse for a person being given life, not wanting to live it. There are so many around the world right now who have no desire to live right now. If you think about it, it is a very selfish thing to bring a human into this world for personal desires. People just need to be more sensible and careful in the first place. Then they wouldnt have these problems at all..
I think abortion shouldn't be done at all. What makes you people think it's ok to take a baby out of their mother at any point? Do you understand what you are doing? Abortion isn't murder, it's more than that. Have any of you heard of adoption? The people in the world that don't have children would love to adopt your babies. This has been twisted around in so many ways to make people think it's ok. It's not ok at all. If you get pregnant unexpectedly, you have to deal with the consequences of having that baby. Think about each baby you abord. It could be a moviestar, or a scientist or the president or that baby could even save the world. Waht if the aborded Miley Cyrus or Elvis Presley or your hero. How differnt would the world be? Think about what those precious children could become. Give them a chance. I'm speaking on behalf of those babies who don't have a voice. I think abortion should be legal up until 24 weeks because what if that woman found out she was pregnant when she was just hitting 24 weeks, and what if she was raped and didn't find out until about that time, its her choice. You can't judge a book by it's cover and she could be going through a tough time at that moment and can't deal with a baby. Instead of you judging her let the man upstairs deal with her because of the decision she made.
